About BARC

last modified 2007-08-20 16:43

Who: Bollinger Autonomic Robotics Club (BARC) established 2004

What: After school robotics program for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students of Bollinger Canyon Elementary School. Throughout the school year we conduct 2 programs:

  • FIRST LEGO League competition runs from September through November and allows our club members to put their skills to a competative test. Register for competition teams.
  • Skill building sessions begin in January and run through the end of May. These 5/6 week sessions teach club members about the field of robotics using the LEGO® Mindstorms™ robotics system.

When: BARC meets for 2 hours once per week, usually on Monday or Thursday starting right after school throughout the school year.

Why: BARC was formed to teach elementary school students about robotics and allow them to apply their math and science skills in a technology area that is hands-on and fun.

How: We use the LEGO ® Mindstorms ™ Robotic system as our platform. It comes complete with LEGO ® building pieces, RCX microcomputer, and programming software. We also use the Lego NXT platform and will be acquiring the VEX system for the 2007/2008 season.
