What does PTA stand for?

-Parent Teacher Association

A cooperative group of volunteer parents, teachers, staff members and administrators working together to benefit the well-being of the students, their families, and the school.

-Bollinger Canyon’s PTA is under the California State PTA. 

The mission of the California State PTA is to positively impact the lives of all children and families by representing our members and empowering and supporting them with skills in advocacy, leadership, and communications.

 

What are some of the educational programs that PTA provides?

-Assemblies

-Birthday Books

A book given as a gift on each child’s birthday

-Breakfast Book Club

A monthly before-school program to introduce different books and encourage the love of reading.  There is a fee to join.  Children receive a new book each month, have a donut and juice breakfast, and participate in an activity related to the book.

-Cross County Sister School Project

Organizes fundraising to help pay for uniforms or other identified need for our sister school, Stege Elementary, in Richmond CA.  Also organizes a healthy snack donation to be given to Stege students during STAR testing.

-FAME

Fine Arts Mini Experience: a multi-media and live performance assembly introducing famous artists to the children.

-Red Ribbon Week

A week of activities to promote safety and saying no to drugs

-Reflections

A visual/performing arts competition which can continue to district/state/national level

 

What are some of the social events that PTA organizes?

-Donuts with a Loved One (on or near Valentine’s Day)

A chance for families to share a donut and hot chocolate with their children before school to celebrate Valentine’s Day

-Family Reading Night

A night of reading and activities to promote literacy

-New Family Social

An evening to welcome and introduce new families to Bollinger Canyon

-Talent Show

Usually held in spring.  All students are welcome to participate.

  

What are some of the supports that PTA gives to the Bollinger Canyon school?

-Directory

Includes class lists and alphabetical listing as well as school information.

Given out later in fall to all those with a paid PTA membership ($10)

-Ed Fund liaison

-Extra classroom supplies reimbursement for teachers

-Head Room Parent Coordinator

Coordinates volunteer room parents for each classroom

-Health and Safety

Includes noon duty, traffic duty, red ribbon week, hearing/vision testing, emergency supplies/procedures

-Legislative advocacy

-Library liaison

Coordinates volunteers to help each class with their weekly library visits

-Marquee

-Newsletter

-Registration

Organizes paperwork and volunteers to run registration for Bollinger

-Teacher Appreciation

 

How does the PTA fund their programs?

-Generous donations from you!  Thank you!

-Matching corporate donations

-Box Tops for Education

-Kids Night Out

Parents can pay to have the kids watch a movie and have some popcorn at the school two evenings a year.

-Primo’s Run

A race/family walk to raise funds for the district education fund with some money given to each school based on participation

-Printer Cartridge Recycling

-Restaurant Events or Dining for Dollars

On a specific day a restaurant will give a percent of their profits back to Bollinger.

-School Supplies

At the end of the school year, parents can order school supplies for their children for the following year.

-PTA solely exists due to the heart of our volunteers!  Become involved!

 

How can I become a member of the Bollinger Canyon PTA?

-During registration:

You can become a member by filling out a form and turning it in with $10 for membership dues.  This will give you one membership and one school directory. 

-After registration:

You can still become a member, but directories can only be given if memberships were paid for before the directory was printed or if there are extra directories available.

 

Who is on the PTA Board?

-We have over 35 parents, staff and the principal volunteering on the Bollinger Canyon PTA Board.  Please click on the “Board Members” link to see a complete list with emails if you would like to contact someone on the board.

 

When are the PTA Meetings?

-On the third Friday of each month at 9:30 am in the science class, except in November and December when they will be held on the second Friday.

-All are welcome to attend.  Look for monthly email notices.
